
Rooms are fine but not spacious, the maid service well below par for a five star hotel and overall, although most of the staff are pleasant and speak good English, the atmosphere is so impersonal. The low rate of table bookings should tell them something is wrong. Restaurant managers were touting for evening business among clients enjoying the beach, when we were there. Against that, the inclusive buffet-breakfast is excellent and served until noon. Meat dishes, locally caught fish or exotic vegetables, left in a hot tureen for an hour or more, is probably a one-off experience. Buffet Dinner only, for TL99 (£52 inc VAT) – splendid starters and sweets but main courses suffer by comparison. Olives restaurant serving traditional Turkish food, is equally expensive but very poor value-for-money. The Italian and Vietnamese restaurants are expensive but good. We can sometimes buy that “on offer” at our local Waitrose for £4.85. The wine list is ridiculous, a bottle of the cheapest local wine is nearly £40 (with VAT) and the popular Rioja “Vina Sol” more than £100 (£91 plus VAT). A small and indifferent glass of white wine at the pool bar was TL24 in Ausust (2010) with VAT added on the final bill – almost £12. The prices of all the “extras” are prohibitive and in such an isolated spot, guests are reliant on the hotel bars and three restaurants.
